Beginning in 2024 by a group of passionate game dev enthusiasts, the MacEwan Game Dev Club (MGDC) strives to become one of Edmonton's notable partners supporting the Canadian game development community.Check our official social media handles and links below!
Weekly club meetings offer you a chance to meet other fellow students with the same passion and interests! We strive to maintain a welcoming, casual and inclusive atmosphere where students can choose to play games, show off their projects, network or study!
The MGDC Game Jam is an annual event that invites MacEwan students as well as anyone outside of school across any discipline to make a game within a 48-hour period. In our recent 2025 game jam, 7 games were submitted, which you can check them out here!
There will be come to come... Exhibitions, industry guest talks, workshops and other volunteering opportunities in partnerships with other fellow game dev communities! Stay tuned for more of these announcements to come next year!

Who can join the MGDC?
Anyone can join our club and participate in our events! However, certain membership activities, such as nomination for executive positions, are reserved for current MacEwan students only.Do I need to have prior experience about game development before I can join?
Of course not! This club is open to all levels, whether or not you're just starting out or you're an expert in the video gaming industry. We hope that this club can give you all the tools and resources possible to let you begin your game dev journey!But I can't code :(
Did you know that game development is more than just about coding?
We want gamers, writers, artists, musicians, designers, sound engineers, playtesters, advocates, organizers, marketers, scholars, enthusiasts... you name it! As long as you have an interest in playing and/or making games, that's what matters. :)
Plus, there are game engines out there that are friendly to beginners who do not code!How do your club meetings work?
We keep our weekly meetings light and casual so that you can just drop in and leave whenever you feel like it! There is no minimum required commitment whatsoever.
